You're Not A Loser, You're A Learner

You're not a loser, you're a learner. There is a big difference between being a loser and a learner. A loser gives up, while a learner keeps going. In Ireland, when a citizen is learning how to drive they are called a learner. To signify this, each learner has a red sticker with a big L on the back of their car. This way other drivers know that they don't have their drivers license yet. Here is a picture to show you what this looks like. I kid you not when it's literally a big red L on your car.

In this case L doesn't mean loser, it means learner. I bring this up because it's easy to get down on yourself when things aren't going the way you want them to. To think, "oh man I can't seem to get this right, I feel like such a loser." I am here to remind you, there's a difference between feeling like a loser and actually being one. Feelings are not facts. Feelings are subjective, and as such you can't argue with them. So to say " I feel like a loser" may be true in terms of your feelings, but the bigger question is are you actually one? A loser gives up, while a learner keeps going. Have you given up, or are you still fighting for what you want?

It can be difficult to determine what's really on your heart. Equally challenging is knowing if what you want is what God wants. A wise friend once told me "pursue what's on your heart. If it is not part of God's plan He will let you know." In other words, just do it. Don't get stuck in analysis paralysis. If you want results, you have to put forth the effort. Recognizing that learning and making mistakes is a part of that process. Just like learner drivers in Ireland who go around town with a big L on their car. It's not about perfection, it's about progress. You might not get the results you hoped for, but if you are taking action and trying things, you are still getting results. Failed attempts teach you more than unexplored ideas.

Think back to when you were first learning to drive. Did you know everything right off the bat? Most likely not. There's a learning period that had to take place when you were first beginning. The same goes for your life right now. Every expert was once a beginner. Don't give up! Keep going because you're not a loser, you're a learner. As my alumna mater says "forward. Always forward. Everywhere forward".
